Extreme Makeover: The Office Edition…

OK, all you organizers extraordinaire out there…how ’bout a little creative remodeling help?

Suppose you had a typical, plain old, B-flat, vanilla office, say, at a small traditional church. And suppose you got really tired of the way it looks. And suppose you thought you’d be a lot more productive in that space if it were optimized for productivity. And suppose you were thinking really hard about doing an extreme office makeover.

What would you do? What would be the essentials that you absolutely could not live without? What would your dream office space look like if you had the opportunity to have it? Anybody got pictures of cool, productive offices?

Annoying Tech Question…

OK, for all you technical wizards out there…

I’m using a 5-year-old Dell desktop, Windows XP, 512 mgs of RAM, etc. etc. Here’s the annoying thing…When I play music or any other audio source, there is a distracting “pop” sound (much like old 33-1/3 rpm LPs made). Also, it seems the mouse “hangs” up while that popping sound is happening. Is it something about not enough memory? Too many programs running? Sound card problems? Mouse problems? Any ideas?

No error messages or anything…just the annoying popping sound…help!

OK, here’s the deal…I’m in the mood for a little reading. Some theological reading. Some books that will challenge and stretch me right now. Some books that take more than a couple of days to digest. Some books that are classics in the field. Some books that “every pastor ought to have read.” You get the idea.

Non-iPod Players?

OK…suppose you wanted an mp3 player. And suppose you couldn’t afford an iPod right now. What would you do? Would you…

  • a. Keep saving up for the real thing?
  • b. Get something that’s not the real thing, but would work while you run, work out, etc.? (And if b. is your choice, what brand would you look for?)
  • c. Forget it…go back to your Walkman, and leave well enough alone?

We’re right in the middle of a series of messages called “Everybody Hurts,” talking about dealing with life’s pains, disappointments, etc. It’s just worked out that we’ve had some good success tying in some music to each message so far…

What Is It About Wednesday Night?

Dang! For the last few weeks, every Wednesday night has left me just bummed out! I don’t really know why.

Our students show up at church, and they have a big time. After their meeting, I get to hang out for a while with the world’s greatest student pastor (and for the last month or so, the world’s greatest student pastor’s wife!). We laugh, we talk, we diss each other’s musical tastes, we drink coffee.

But I come home in a funk. And I stay in that funk usually until some time on Thursday afternoon.

No idea why, just wondering out loud, I guess…
