Extreme Makeover: The Office Edition…

OK, all you organizers extraordinaire out there…how ’bout a little creative remodeling help?

Suppose you had a typical, plain old, B-flat, vanilla office, say, at a small traditional church. And suppose you got really tired of the way it looks. And suppose you thought you’d be a lot more productive in that space if it were optimized for productivity. And suppose you were thinking really hard about doing an extreme office makeover.

What would you do? What would be the essentials that you absolutely could not live without? What would your dream office space look like if you had the opportunity to have it? Anybody got pictures of cool, productive offices?

I’m waiting…

MMMMM! New Goodies…LARABAR!

Had to do Saturday afternoon at the YMCA today, and I needed some convenient nutrition. Men’s Health just featured the “Best Foods for Men” in this month’s issue, so I pulled out the page and headed to my local mega-mart.

If you’re looking for something pretty good and pretty good for you, that will fit nicely into your manbag or gym bag or even your pocket, run, don’t walk to your nearby mega-mart and pick up a couple of Larabars. I think you’ll be glad you did!

Blown Away by Old Technology…

New gadgets are good. Real good. But this morning, I’m reminded of how the old stuff – old gadgets – ain’t too shabby either. Case in point: I’m continually amazed and grateful for something as simple as my Liquid Solutions Bullet Bottle (see above).

Yeah, yeah…it’s a Thermos, so what?

But it’s simple and elegant in design. And best of all..it works! I’m drinking hot! Sumatra from last night this morning…and it’ll be hot! Sumatra all day long, thanks to my bullet bottle.

Sometimes only the latest and greatest gadgets will do. But sometimes, the old, the simple, the tried-and-true are absolutely perfect for the task at hand.

New Morning, New Mercies, New Moleskine…

nu_mole_1030.jpg
It’s great to start a new Moleskine! That blank ivory first page sits and stares at you, waiting to be filled with something profound, insightful, and permanent.

I started a new one this morning. That’s it in the picture. I’ve actually had it in my bag for a month in anticipation of finishing the previous one. Today I cracked that wrapper. I perused the “history of the Moleskine” pamphlet inside the secret pocket just as I’ve done 11 times before!

Interestingly, the old one – Number 11 – ended with these words

I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss. Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this:

And the first words in the new one could not have been more appropriate for the start of a brand-new day and the start of a brand-new notebook…

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” The Lord is wonderfully good to those who wait for him and seek him. So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.

How’s your new day starting? What are you most grateful for today? How have the Lord’s fresh mercies shown up in your life already today?

Non-iPod Players?

OK…suppose you wanted an mp3 player. And suppose you couldn’t afford an iPod right now. What would you do? Would you…

  • a. Keep saving up for the real thing?
  • b. Get something that’s not the real thing, but would work while you run, work out, etc.? (And if b. is your choice, what brand would you look for?)
  • c. Forget it…go back to your Walkman, and leave well enough alone?
