“Grow Old LOUD!”

One of my “redneck pastor” buds, Ken Bob, reviewed his trip to last weekend’s Music Midtown. A couple of his comments really stood out to me…

“Music Midtown is one big missionary field confined by 10ft fence!”

“It was hilarious to hear twenty somethings say, ‘These guys are insane!’ All I know is I heard the bell ringing cause those kids were gettin’ schooled on what rock and roll is!!!”

And this one…

“I made a commitment this weekend to grow old LOUD!”

To grow old LOUD! What a powerful concept! I don’t want these years to pass by without making a mark for the Savior! I don’t want to be the “old coot trying to be cool,” but I don’t want to be the “old coot just content being the old coot” either.

Kind of reminds me of Sunday night’s little talk from Romans 13…

“But make sure that you don’t get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God. The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing! God is putting the finishing touches on the salvation work he began when we first believed. We can’t afford to waste a minute, must not squander these precious daylight hours in frivolity and indulgence, in sleeping around and dissipation, in bickering and grabbing everything in sight. Get out of bed and get dressed! Don’t loiter and linger, waiting until the very last minute. Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about!”

Oh, here’s what Ken Bob looks like when he’s growing old LOUD! Ah, the transforming power of Music Midtown!
