Suburban Spirituality
I had intended to post the Christianity Today article by the same name, so I decided to find it in its entirety. As I Googled, I came across this quote in a book review somewhere…

“Many Christians today have what some sociologists of religion have called a ‘suburban spirituality’: we like our religion neatly trimmed, safe, gated, and above all respectable. As a consequence, fewer and fewer of us are willing to take chances – much less, God forbid, risks – for the sake of the Gospel. Little wonder that some of the folks most ardently working for peace and justice have a healthy distrust of Christianity.”

Anyway, here’s the whole article

“Of course I’ll be back. I have to manage the All-Star team.”
So says one Jack McKeon, improbable 72-year-old manager of the improbable World Series champion Florida Marlins.

Now, I didn’t care much about baseball after the Braves couldn’t…well, you know….

But, you’ve gotta love ol’ “Trader Jack.” Gotta hand it to him. Kind of refreshing, in that “only in America” kind of way. The rumors had already started about another Marlins “fire sale.” About McKeon heading back to the farm. Blah blah blah…

I say good for Jack McKeon! Maybe some other managers – no names, please – could teach a bunch of improbables to play with passion. Hey…it has happened before!

I Don’t Need to Blog!
Of course, no one needs to blog, you say! So, what’s up?

What’s up is I read lots of other blogs, and those folks have lots of stuff – good, bad, or otherwise – going on in their lives. Important stuff. Cool stuff. Tragic stuff. Heavy stuff. Poignant stuff. I’m just poking through life, one day at a time, and thinking, “having a blog is very cool.” But then not posting anything is kind of stupid…

Seems I only use this space to “stalk” other folks’ blogs, wishing I could be as “important” as they are…

Looks like it’s going to be one of those days…
