How Do You Say latt in French?
Starbucks comes to Paris!
The king of Frappucinos-to-go nevertheless accepts it may not be easy to make ends meet right away in a country where people still like to sit down to drink their “express,” preferred short, black, bitter – and above all, cheap.

“Our success in other countries does not provide us with an entitlement to be successful in France,” Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz told The Associated Press.

Research has shown the French remain skeptical about “whether coffee from America can measure up,” Schultz conceded, but they are aware of the Starbucks brand – and “their curiosity will drive them into the stores.”

Keith Drury is Thinking. And Writing About It!
“For instance Ive been thinking that my greatest mistake has been theologicalIve not fully grasped the importance of the church. Ive been a true man of the enlightenment in emphasizing individuality personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a personal walk with God, personal devotionsto the exclusion of the corporate elements of Christianity. Ive got to think more on this before writing, but Im increasingly thinking that there is no such thing as just a personal relationship with Jesus Christ apart from a relationship with the church. I know, I knowthis sounds incredibly Catholic. But Ive been wrong to ignore the central role of the body of Christ in the life of a real Christiannot just to helps Christians be better people or to be a locker room for real life outside the church, but Im increasingly pondering the thought that there is so salvation outside the church. Im fed up with a world charmed by Jesus who reject the church. But the worlds dismissal of the church is not my central concernbut Christians dismissal of it.”

Radio Paradise! (Thanks Randy Bohlender!)
I discovered Radio Paradise the other day via Randy Bohlender’s weblog! Very cool stuff! Everything from The Beatles to The B-52s to Hevia to Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” and everything else in between! Their site says: “programmed by real live humans, playing an eclectic blend of modern & classic rock, world beat, and eclectic “surprises.”

Surprises, indeed! Very good stuff!

Oh, and you can be a supporter, not just a listener. I’m signing up tonight!

“Send the Ones Nobody Else Wants”
I was going through some old journal entries yesterday, and I came across some notes I had made last year while re-reading Dick Wills’ Waking to God’s Dream. In the section about his daily prayer practices, Wills wrote that he prays for God to “send him the ones nobody else wants.”

WOW! What a powerful prayer! Most of us – yep! I said “us” – are looking for the ones that can do the most for us, the ones who will “contribute” to our lives and our ministries.

Now, I know that somebody’s got to reach the “uppers.” Somebody’s got to carry the message to the “somebodies.”

But I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that if we aren’t willing to find the “downers” and the “somebodies-who-just-don’t-know-it-yet,” we won’t have many opportunities to reach out to anybody.

God, send me the ones nobody else wants. And help me recognize when they’re standing right in front of me. Not so I can be “relevant” or “trendy” or “emerging” or whatever. But so I can “contribute my verse” to the “powerful play” that is Your work in the world.

I Wish I Did…
Lord,
I know You know what You’re doing.
I know You know what You’re going to do.
I know You know what I’m doing.
I know You know what I’m going to do.

I wish I did.
