I thought the sticker on the red Jeep was just funny! (I manipulated it just a tad, so you could read it.)
The cup, of course, is from Starbucks’ controversial “The Way I See It” series.
A digital commonplace for a Regular Guy called Charlie Pharis
My buddy, Gary Lamb, has already applied the Braves’ loss and the lessons to be learned from it to churches and stuff. He’s right, you know…
That’s the reason he’s got 300 million hits on his blog this month, and why somebody important somewhere will feature him again, and why his head will swell even more, and why – seriously! – why he’ll keep leading his church to do great things for God. It is all about focus!
Still in that “post-Catalyst” mood and mode, I guess. Plus, we taught our church “How Great Is Our God” this morning, and surprisingly, they seemed to get into it!
Plus, I’m crying in my…sweet tea about what I knew was going to happen tonight anyway. (I just didn’t figure it would take 18 innings!)
BTW, while I’m rambling incoherently, remember that article about the pastor who was considering paying his staff on the basis of whether or not their particular area was growing? I think it’s time we start expecting major league (?!?!) ballplayers to live up to that standard. And isn’t it time some of those superstars re-negotiated their contracts…downward? I mean, based on their performance and all…just a thought from a disgruntled – but not surprised – Braves’ fan…
UPDATE, 8:32 p.m.: Told ya so…
Yeah, but how ’bout those 14 consecutive division titles!?!?!?! Those 14 consecutive division titles and two bucks will buy you a cup of coffee at any Starbucks in America, this time of year.
(The Braves will be sipping that cup of coffee as they clean out their lockers Sunday night.)
In the words of that great philosopher aka My Dad, aka Howard…
Lookahere! Sorry Braves! Great time o’ day! Sorry Braves!
It’s over for another year, but you can see the big picture of what went on at the Catalyst blog.
I’ve already pouted about being sick and missing the second day of the Catalyst Conference. So, in between other stuff today, I’ve tried to keep up with some of the goings-on there. The Blog Search feature is great for such a time as this.
Tony Morgan has perhaps the most detailed and extensive posts about the conference.
Louie Giglio always challenges me whenever I hear him speak or read what he’s written. I heard him at the Catalyst conference. He talked about worship. He boiled worship down to God’s revelation of Himself and our response to that revelation. In typical Louie fashion, he did it like this…
God: “Watch this!”
Us: “Oh, WOW!”
More Louie…
We might be infatuated with the process of worship and not be in His hand at all.
And even more…
There are people who can stop you from leading. No one can stop you from putting your life into God’s hands.
And that led me today, to open Louie’s I Am Not But I Know I AM…
…this book is not about you and making your story better, but about waking up to the infinitely bigger God Story happening all around you, and God’s invitation to you to join Him in it. It’s about looking up to see that there’s a story that has been going on long before you arrived on the planet and one that will go on long after you’re gone. God is the central character of this story and this book. He commands center stage in existence, Creation, time, life, history, redemption, and eternity.
I’m not trying to put you down or imply that you don’t matter. Nor am I saying that you are absent from the grand Story of God. In fact, just the opposite. Amazingly, you appear on every page, existing in God’s thoughts long before this world was made. I’m simply stating the obvious – that the story already has a Star, and the Star is not you or me.

Feeling…
Had planned to go the second day of Catalyst today. Missed the afternoon sessions yesterday. I think I’m just worn a little thin today. Trying to think why…
Since Thursday morning…
I just saw this cartoon over at FreeRepublic, and I just had to laugh…
Today, as I was leaving our church building, I pulled my truck over to our dumpster to throw away some large trash and old bookshelves. I opened the double lids from the front, let them drop to the back, and then threw my junk in the dumpster.
As I went around behind the dumpster to close the lids, look what I found! In case any of you are missing your Rebel flag bikini top – size 7/8 – I know right where it is!
Amazing, ain’t it, Tom?!?!?!
