Good Stuff for You Alpha Male Types…

A couple of great quotes from Matt Chandler’s blog

It seems like the only alpha male I’ve ever read about that doesn’t have a messiah complex is the actual Messiah. I think about how often we get tired but pretend like we’re not, pushing on through like we’re some kind of superman, cape waving in the wind, feeling no pain or fatigue. Not Jesus. When he hits the wall he confesses it to his crew and sits down for a bit.

The last thing I’ll mention about Jesus’ life is that, when he was finally overwhelmed and exhausted right before the cross, he didn’t have sex with his secretary. He asked publicly for prayer.

Pondering, 07.08.07…

Random thoughts rattling around in my head tonight…

  • It’s still pretty fun watching Greg Maddux pitch. Even though he’s pitching for the bad guys now. Oh, and right now, we’re beating him. That’ll probably change before the night is over…wait and see…
  • Newnan, Georgia will probably never be the same after today. Neither will Anderson, South Carolina in two weeks.
  • My buddy Tony is on the move.
  • Losing people is always hard, but especially when it’s good people and they aren’t going away mad.
  • Money is kind of funny. When you’ve got some to give away, it’s very, very cool. When you need some, it kind of stinks.
  • You just never know what you say that will encourage or challenge someone when you least expect it.
  • National Treasure is a pretty good flick.
  • Lyle Schaller still rocks.
  • Morgan Freeman’s character in Se7en says it best.
  • The Redneck Games are under way!

Everyone’s a Coach…

I mean, EVERYONE!

Let’s just say that if someone had told me 18 months ago what I found out today, I would have laughed ’til I cried…or ’til I died, one or the other!

More details to come later!

Pondering…

Just some stuff that fell out of my brain tonight…

  • Thelonius Monk playing solo reminds me of the “gone to the mattresses” scene in The Godfather.
  • Even when you’ve been fighting it during your message prep during the week, God can still use you on Sunday.
  • Most of the time that means He can get your attention to tell you something – and your hearers just get to listen in.
  • I’ve got the best youth pastor in the known world, even if he is just part-time.
  • There was a guy at Mill Creek this morning who bore an uncanny resemblance to the one and only Tony McCollum. Oh, wait
  • Sundays before a big Wednesday holiday are just plain weird.
  • I still get pumped every time I read the story in 2 Kings 18-19, immortalized by Byron.
  • I’d give just about anything to hear Dr. Patrick Spurgeon quote that Byron poem just one more time!
  • I guess it was OK to say “fart” in church. Especially since I said it twice. As in “old.”
  • Indiana Jones still rocks! Especially when he takes that “leap of faith from the Lion’s Head” and then throws sand back across the previously-unseen bridge!
  • Acoustic Sunrise on Dave FM is great!
